The fall gallery season is in full swing (shout-out to Whitehot Magazine for this mega roundup of fall NYC shows). Lately I’ve been thinking about how, in art, seeing is feeling—how vision and emotion are entangled for both the artists and the viewers.

This week’s art reads follow that thread, with reflections on influence, perception, and taking a closer look at some familiar works and artists.

I know I’ve included coverage on Marshall’s current London show just about every week recently, but I really appreciated this perspective, suggesting his figures question the act of looking itself and invite reflection on the viewer’s identity and perspective.

The artist’s current Lisbon show, entitled What looks at us, explores the defiance and vulnerability of sex, rage, and death.
